Drug arrests
WELCH — Several individuals in McDowell County have been arrested on drug-related charges as a result of an ongoing investigation, officials said Thursday.
Search warrants were executed late Wednesday at residences in Northfork and Worth by the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office, the Southern Regional Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force and the Welch Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, sheriff’s department chief deputy Mark Shelton said.
Shelton said the first search warrant was executed Wednesday evening at 5 p.m. at a residence in Northfork. Upon entry into the residence, Shelton said authorities found an individual to be in possession of a large quantity of crack cocaine and marijuana and U.S. currency .
Shelton said Chadney Dererich Stanback, 23, of Northfork, and formerly of North Carolina, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana and crack cocaine. Standback was arraigned by Magistrate Steve Cox, who o set bond at $50,000.
Shelton said a second search warrant was issued at 9 p.m. Wednesday by the sheriff’s office and the task force in the Worth community, near Northfork Hollow.
Shelton said Stephen Hariston, 62, of Worth, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine. A second man, Marcus Dixon, 32 of Worth, formerly of Detroit, Mich., was arrested at the residence on a parole violation charge out of Michigan, Shelton said.
Both men were arraigned Thursday before Magistrate Pete Beavers.
Shelton said a quantity of crack cocaine, and money, was recovered at the residence in Worth.
Shelton said both arrests were the result of an ongoing investigation by the sheriff’s office and the drug task force.
